Marc Chivers was convicted of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Maria Stubbings 50. He had previously been convicted of killing another girlfriend in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1993.
Maria Stubbings had started seeing Marc Chivers in 2008 after he was released from prison and deported from Germany. However, in July 2008 she made complaints to the police that Marc Chivers had assaulted her. she was given a panic alarm but it was taken back a day later when the police arrested Marc Chivers. He was later that year convicted of assault but released as he had already spent three months on parole.
Marc Chivers later went to her house and murdered her. She had not been told that Marc Chivers had been released. She had made several 999 calls but the police didn't go to her house for at least a week. however, when the police called Marc Chivers answered the door and told them that Maria Stubbings had gone away. When the police returned the next day they found Maria Stubbings's body which they later said could have been there for several days.
She had been strangled with a dog lead.
